SpriCulArts – Heartical Works in Progress 2

These are the latest additions to my ‘Heartical’ Collection. I am still working on two and deciding if one is complete.  This may sound funny, but each work I do has to feel completed, like I have expressed all within that space . I have also found that by working on a couple of pieces at a time, I am less liable to feel low.  Mind you though, I do have some neon green, yellow and orange card waiting  in the wings, I’ve just got to find my sunglasses to start working on them……

A lot of my ‘Heartical’ Collection  are head and shoulder images which also reflects my love of cultural  hairstyles and head wear.

SpiriCulArts – Moon Of My Soul

‘Moon Of My Soul 2 ‘ by Imani aka EmpressFaith c 2012

Gold, Silver, Green and Pink metallic ink on black card

‘Moon Of My Soul ‘by Imani aka EmpressFaith c 1999

This is one of my smaller pieces which I had designed for my CD compilation collection back in1999.  I love music and have an extensive collection, in fact I use to be a member of a women’s Sound System. I only came across this a few weeks ago, hidden in a plastic box with a couple of other covers. They all looked a bit dull, so I decided to brighten them up. I used silver and gold Uni Paint Markers as well as Signo  Uniball  green and pink metallic ink pens.  ‘Moon Of My Soul 2’ is the result.

SpiriCulArts – Fresh Start Metallic

Now that I have a name which explains how I sometimes act and view life, I am trying to be more gentle with myself. I decided to start doodling again after a break of a few years. Fresh Start Metallic is my first picture of 2012.

SpiriCulArts – Heaven Only Knows…..

HEAVEN ONLY KNOWS by IMANI c 1997

Heaven Only Knows is the name of this piece, as of all of my abstract metallic art, this one was the hardest to find a name for. I usually name my artworks on completion, I look at it and a name springs to mind.  I did think of Mad But Pretty but didn’t feel comfortable calling it that.

I would really like to start drawing again. I just lost the glow, the oomph to create from my heart.I didn’t and couldn’t feel  any artistic passion. Once I start a picture, I work on it on a daily basis or within a few hours, depending on the size. Now that I know why I feel the way I do, I can stop kicking myself with frustration and rage.

SpiriCulArts – Spiritual, Cultural & Artistic

‘ Face It’ by Imani c 1998 All Rights Reserved

Once upon a time, there was a busy mother of three who juggled so many things that she just sparked with creativity. She wrote poetry, ran creative writing classes, co-edited two poetry anthologies, designed book covers, established a support group for Rastafarian women and even had  her own radio show on a London community station as well as looking after three small but growing individuals. She also  developed a range of artworks using HB pencils and metallic ink pens and participated in several art exhibitions in London.

And yes, this was me.

I chose the name ‘SpiriCulArts’   as I create each picture to celebrate my spirituality and cultural influences. This picture is called ‘Face It’  which was created using metallic  purple and silver ink pens on green neon card.  I had no idea of how this would turn out as all my works in ink start from a  single  doodle, this one started in the top left hand corner whilst I was watching telly.

‘Whatdoyousee’ by Imani c 1999  All Rights Reserved

Now for this picture ‘Whatdoyousee’  I worked on black card using  bronze, silver, pink and blue metallic pens.  The whole process of starting  a picture with a random shape and then experimenting with different effects is really calming.  I love creating images of movement and flow.
